IELTS Meaning
IELTS is the short form for International English language testing system which is an international standardized test of English language proficiency for non-native English language speakers. The whole idea of the IELTS exam is to determine the extent to which nonnative English speakers are fluent in English language. IELTS is jointly managed by the British council, IDP, IELTS Australia and Cambridge assessment English.

IELTS is accepted by most institutions in Britain, Australia, Canada, European, Ireland as well as New Zealand. Some institutions in the United States also accept IELTS.
IELTS Registration
You can choose to apply for the IELTS exam in person or online. You would need to following to be able to make a complete application:
- A completed application form with details of receiving organizations if applicable
- Payment of the test fee
- Application confirmation, acceptable ID copy and evidence of payment
If your application is not completed yet, it would be placed on hold for a maximum period of 48 hours. If you still do not complete your application within this period, you would have to start a fresh application.

1. How To Register For IELTS Online
If you want to register for the IELTS exam online, follow these steps:
- Complete the application form online where you would need to scan and submit a clear copy of your international passport or your NIN card with microchip embedded.
- You can then proceed to make an online payment to IDP education services Nigeria limited with account number (1219329003- Zenith bank)
- You would then send the evidence of payment to payment@ielts.ng (you would also need to include the name of the applicant for which payment is being made, in the mail).
- Lastly, a confirmation email will be sent to you. You would need to wait for at least 48 hours for processing and confirmation.
2. How To Register For IELTS In Person
You can also choose to register for IELTS exam in person. Follow these steps to apply:
- The first thing you need to do is download the IELTS application form and then fill in your details and submit to the IELTS office.
- Make sure you have a copy of your international passport with you or your NIN card with microchip embedded. You can also make payment through the ways listed on the online method.
If you register in person, you would have access to facilities for online registration at IELTS office.

How Hard Is The IELTS Exam?
Many individuals complain of how difficult the IELTS exams are, the truth is; if you are well prepared for the exam, it would not be as difficult as you may think it would be. Therefore, I encourage proper practice questions.
IELTS Online Test
You can now take the IELTS exam online from the comfort of your home or any private and well-lit space with stable internet connection. All you need is to give of 2 hours 50 minutes of your time. There are also basic requirements to be able to take the IELTS online test which are as follows:
To take IELTS Online you must have a laptop or desktop computer, and have no additional screen connected.
You cannot take the test on a mobile, tablet or Chromebook.

- Mac version 10.15 or higher
- Windows version 10 or 11 on 64-bit platforms
- Windows: Minimum 2GB RAM, Recommended minimum 4GB RAM
- Mac: Minimum 4GB RAM, Recommended minimum 8GB RAM

2. Camera, Speakers, Microphone
You will need the following:
- External or in-built computer camera.
- External or in-built speakers and microphone. Headphones, headsets or any type of ear-device are not permitted.
For the room scan checks you will need to be asked to move your camera to get a full view of your room. You will also need a tablet or mobile phone with a camera for the room scan, and this must be switched off and placed out of reach once the room scan is complete.
3. Speed Of Internet Connection
It is recommended that you download the latest version of your internet browser and check your connection speed meets the requirements:
- Minimum internet speed requirements 600kbps
4. Inspera Exam Portal
To take IELTS Online, you will need to download the Inspera Exam Portal to check if your computer is ready to take the test. Click ‘Next’ which starts the pre-test system checks, using the most recent version of one of the following web browsers:
