What Is National Merit Scholarship Corporation?

National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) is a private non-profit organization which was established in 1955, that operates without government assistance. Its mission is to recognize and honour the academically talented students of the US and it accomplishes this mission by conducting nationwide scholarship program designed to identify academically talented youths and encourage them develop their skills and abilities to the fullest potential.

Among high scorers, about 16,000 are selected as finalist and about 95% of that selected list gets selected to become finalists after meeting specific academic and other qualifications. And ultimately, about 800 finalist receive special scholarships from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation’s, whereas 7,250 finalists will win one of three types of awards; a corporate-sponsored scholarship, a college-sponsored scholarship and a one-time $2,500 National Merit scholarship from the NMSC.

National Merit Semi-finalist By State 2023

To compete for National Merit Scholarships semifinalist, you must advance to the finalist level of the competition by fulfilling several additional requirements. Both the semifinalist and the school official must supply a substantial amount of information on the application which the NMSC uses to determine if the student qualifies to advance to finalist standing and to select scholarship recipients.
